Startup Disrupt helped co-organize a business mission to the USA focused on Czech aerospace and mobility startups. On the first day of our mission, one of our selected startups, Groundcom, signed a new contract in Washington, D.C., to supply a ground station.
Groundcom already has a contract with the client to operate a forthcoming constellation of 400 satellites using a network of antennas they are gradually building worldwide.
Once delivered, the station will be used primarily to service satellites that can only be served by ground stations operated by US entities.
This contract is significant for Groundcom’s founder Jakub Lajmon because part of the contract also allows them to include the station in their network under construction and extend their coverage to parts of the east coast of North America.
About Us – Groundcom
As a three-year-old startup based in Brno, Groundcom develop ground stations. These are antennas that satellite operators use to transmit commands to satellites and download data from them back to Earth.
Groundcom build and operate similar stations in various countries around the world, enabling satellite owners to stay in contact with them as they fly over areas with established coverage.
Groundcom primary goal is to operate a global network of such antennas and become a “mobile operator” for satellites in space.
Requests to purchase stations validate their mission and allow us to build their coverage more quickly.
They have ground station clients not only in Europe and the USA but also in Africa and the Middle East.
This year they are negotiating with potential investors mainly to expand capacities to meet customer demand we are already actively negotiating with.
