
Petr Somol
Petr Somol is the AI Research Director at Gen and a Staff Scientist at the Czech Academy of Sciences, with over 25 years of experience in Machine Learning research. He earned his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University in Prague, and previously held a research position at Cambridge University, collaborating with D.E.R.A. in Malvern on remote cancer detection technologies. After a decade in academia, he transitioned to industry, working as a Software Engineer at Oracle and later becoming Head of Research at Cisco Systems in Prague, where he led the development of the machine learning engine behind Cognitive Threat Analytics. At Gen, Petr now leads AI research in cybersecurity, focusing on novel algorithm development and their integration into leading security products such as Norton Genie.
